Important: This is a free tutorial and it is available to watch on youtube with English captions. You don't need to buy it in order to watch it.

However if you like part 1 and part 2 and want to support the creation of part 3 of this series, please use this gumroad page and buy it for 3$. You can download 720p version of the videos and you will receive additional files like the final model in .ztl format, as well as the custom alphas (shown in part 2) used during its creation. They are not included in the free version.

Description:

For long time Zbrush was used primary for organic sculpting, but (as you already know) this changed with recent versions and modeling hard surfaces in Zbrush is not a "mission impossible" any more, on the contrary it is a breeze. This is a tutorial for Zbrush prior Zmodeler, but you will see that "sculpting" hard surfaces is easy and you won't require sub-D modeling skills.

Part1:

In part 1 of this tutorial, we are going to learn about few interesting tools and techniques, that are useful for hard surface modeling inside Zbrush. We will create a simple model/basemesh used for the design iterations shown in the second video.

Some of the covered topics:

* Basic techniques;

* Quick translation of the silhouette using shadowbox;

* Mastering the Slice Brush and PolishByGroups feature;

* Deforming surfaces using the Transpose Line;

Part2:

Part 2 will cover the design process used for the creation of the final sci-fi gun model. Using custom alpha stencils, happy accidents, multiplying design variations using 3d layers are only part of the covered topics.

Some of the covered topics:

* 3D layers for generating variations;

* Generate interesting alphas from existing photos using PS filter called "Caleidoscope";

* Designing by happy accidents;

* Using Morph Targets and the Morph Brush;

Bonus files:

* Final 3d model of the polished gun design in .ztl format;

* 4 sci-fi alphas created initially from photos then enhanced by sculpting in Zbrush.
